As we have some children in our setting, who suffer from a severe nut allergy please could I take this opportunity to remind everyone that our school endeavours to have a “No Nuts Policy”. This means that the following items should not be bought into school:
Packs of nuts, Peanut butter sandwiches, Nutella / Chocolate Spread sandwiches, Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts ie tracker bars, Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts, Sesame seed rolls (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame).
Morning Break Key Stage 1 children are all offered a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable every day as part of the government's Free Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. Please inform us of any allergies to fruit or vegetables that your child may have.
Children may bring fruit or healthy eating type snacks to eat during this time. Crisps, biscuits, chocolate bars etc. are not permitted for the morning break, and sweets or chewing gum must not be brought to school. We encourage children to be ‘healthy eaters’ and seek parents’ support with this.
Children under 5 years of age are offered free school milk daily.
Lunchtime School meals are prepared in our kitchen and served in the hall. Children have a choice of menu both with dinner and dessert.
Free School Meals are supplied to children whose parents are in receipt of certain benefits. If you feel your child may be entitled to a free meal please ask at the school office.
Universal Infant Free School Meals - The Government introduced Universal Infant Free School Meal's in September 2014 for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children which automatically entitles them to a free school meal. You do not need to apply for this when your child starts school.
Key Stage 2 (years 3-6) School Meals - Children can choose to pay for a school meal or bring in their own packed lunch. If you would like your child to have a school meal, please pay online via ParentPay at https://www.parentpay.com/.
Dinner money must be paid in advance by parents using Parent Pay online payment system. You can find some healthy lunch box ideas on the NHS Change 4 Life website.
Income Related Free School Meals - If you think your child might be entitled to free school meals, due to your family circumstance then please apply online via the 'Citizen Portal' which is the quickest and easiest way and will result in you getting an instant decision. Alternatively, call the Education Helpline on 0345 155 1019. Further information can also be obtained on the Devon County Council website at: http://new.devon.gov.uk/educationandfamilies/school-information/school-meals. If you qualify not only do you get free school meals but it also attracts additional extra funding 'Pupil Premium' to support your child’s education. To get this extra funding you must still apply even if your child chooses not to have the free school meal as they prefer a packed lunch or is already receiving universal free school meals.
IMPORTANT: a proportion of our annual school funding and pupil premium funding is based on the number of pupils entitled to free school meals. This makes a huge difference to our school's total funding. It is therefore in the school’s interest that those who are eligible apply for these meals, even though these meals might not be taken up. Please contact the school office for more information.
