Computing

Intent

At Sherford Vale we equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Our computing curriculum equips children with life skills and knowledge to use technology positively and safely in an ever-evolving digital world. Our aim is to enable children to explore, analyse, share and present information confidently, responsibly and safely and know how they can do this within school and at home to support learning in computing and across the curriculum.

The children will have opportunities to use equipment and resources exploring the three strands of computing –

  1. Computer Science,
  2. Information Technology and
  3. Digital Literacy.

Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Our aim is that all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
