Intent

Through art, craft and design children learn to express their thoughts and emotions, use their imaginations, and develop creativity. Art is subjective but also experiential. Our art and design curriculum aims to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Over time children will become proficient in their use of media, experiment, trying out their ideas, and produce authentic pieces that realise their thinking. In order for our children to become creative, we will provide them with the knowledge and skills they require to develop that creativity.  

This will be achieved through:

• producing creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
• over time developing and progress in their drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
• using the language of art, craft and design to evaluate and analyse creative works
• develop their knowledge about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

We use AccessArt to complement and inspire our Art & Design curriculum.
