An exciting start for our Future Make Club

Future Make

30 of our Westcountry Trust children have started attending the new Future Make Club which runs weekly at Sherford and Stowford.

The 10-week club is delivered by a team from the Real Ideas Organisation and is designed to explore future focused creativity and technology and inspire the children to be the makers of the future. As well as this the club looks to promote 7 skills research suggests will be essential in the future world of work including ‘learning new skills’, ‘getting stuff done’ and ‘thinking differently’.

In the first few weeks the children have already created clay avatars with the help of a digital artist, flown drones and controlled remote cars, and investigated how different types of cameras can be used to capture interesting and unusual footage. They’ll be putting all this together with other skills in construction and sound design to create an exciting multimedia performance for friends, family and teachers at the end of the 10 weeks.

So far the club has been ’amazing’, ‘fun’ and ‘challenging’ according to the children and Gary Futcher, one of the club facilitators said, ‘We’ve been so impressed by the way the children have got stuck into the new learning and challenges. They’re really willing to play with and explore new ideas and technology and great at finding creative ways to apply them. They really are the makers of the future!’
